More Information
I am a Manager at T-Mobile. When the Android G1 first launched my challenge was to find a program that would push/pull my Exchange email. There were many applications out there but none seemed to work for me. Once I found Touchdown, my troubles were solved. The support is excellent and the application has worked without error. If I had to recommend an Exchange application for your MyTouch or Android G1 – Touchdown by NitroDesk is your best bet.

the application. If you use ActiveSync Only mode, you can now refresh your contacts again and the photos you have in outlook
should appear in the contact details on TouchDown™. They should also be refreshed into the phonebook if you have setup syncing to the phone.
In addition, you can simply tap a photo on any contact in TouchDown™ and choose a picture for the contact either from the
picture on your phone or directly from the camera. Once you select or capture a picture, you will be shown the photo with
the ability to crop out a 64X64 area of the picture.
Next time you are meeting one of your contacts, you can whip out your phone, open the contact, touch the photo and take a picture of him/her for keepsakes.
Supports ZIMBRA If you have a Zimbra server, now you can use the Easy Configuration option in TouchDown™ to connect with your account and receive your emails, contacts and calendar.
New Home Screen Now the home screen of TouchDown™ shows you more than just buttons. It has a new panel which takes more of the screen, displaying you the most recent 5 unread emails from the past 24 hours, as well as all your appointments for the current day. Depending on the layout mode, and the number of items you have, you may have to scroll down to see all the items. But clicking on any item should take you directly to the item.
Contacts List Size Now the contacts list shows an additional button at the end of the list, clicking which will increase the number of contacts shown in the list. You can use this to progressively see more and more contacts in the list.
Navigation Buttons When viewing emails, now you can tap on the message header to reveal a set of buttons which you can use to perform quick operations such as Moving to next or previous emails, replying, forwarding and deleting messages.
FIX: Delete emails from Outlook A bug has been fixed in the ActiveSync modes where deleting or marking emails beyond the past 24 hours did not reflect on TouchDown™.
Appointment Reminders The appointment reminders list which pops up in this version lets you long-press on an appointment to present you with options to delete, dismiss, snooze or open the appointment. You can also click on an appointment on the reminders list to open the event.
Version 3.0.031 (Thursday, 4/22/2009)
ActiveSync Only mode If you have
ActiveSync enabled for your account and are running Exchange 2003 SP2 or above,
you can now use the more efficient and faster ActiveSync ONLY connection mode.
It is recommended that in order to use this mode, you first uninstall your
program and reinstall, since the procedure for upgrading can be a little tricky.
For more information on configuring activesync only mode, please download and
read the configuration PDF document here :

The following are benefits (and gotchas) of activesync only connection mode
Live-Contact update to phonebook Now in addition to the ability to copy contacts to the phone, you also can enable a mode where any change to the Exchange contacts list will be instantly refreshed to the phonebook. For this, you should ensure the following :
Live Lists If an update to emails/contacts/calendar happens when you are viewing the corresponding lists, the list will be updated in real time.
Peak Times setting You can now go to the advanced tab in settings, click on the Peak Times button at the bottom and specify for each day of the week, times during which TouchDown™ should check for new messages. If your peak times are not a single block of time during the day, but the inverse (e.g.: 12.00 AM to 9:AM and 8:00 PM to 11:59 PM), select the NON-peak time in the range and check the box which says Non-Peak. However, you should note that keeping a VERY long non-peak time (> around 24 hours) can interfere with correct operation of the Exchancge 2007 mode.
Edit Simple Calendar Appointments Now you can edit non-recurring calendar appointments, Simply open the appointment and press Menu/Edit, or long-press an appointment and select edit.
Fetch Older Email A new option in the Email Views menu allows you to fetch older email. Select Fetch All and select the number of days to go back in history. In ActiveSync mode, there is some rounding-up that happens (1 day, 3 days, 1 week, 2 weeks, 1 month) and it will not fetch more than 30 days of history. If nothing happens when you do this in activesync mode, perform a couple of Menu/Refresh actions, or send yourself an email.
Home Screen Shortcuts Now you can drop shortcuts to Emails Contacts and Calendars on the home screen. Simply press menu when on the Google Phone home screen, and expand the shortcuts option and pick TouchDown™. You will get a choice of Shortcuts to drop on the desktop.
GAL Search within Contacts You can now perform GAL search within contacts. Press Menu/Search GAL and enter the search criteria. If you click on the result list, the contact will be opened in a contacts view, where you can call or email the contact. You can also Press Menu and save it as a contact in TouchDown™. But note that it will not be synced with the exchange server, and will disappear from the contacts list when you perform a refresh-all.
Reset PIN If your activesync system requires you to enter a PIN, and you forget the PIN, you can now reset your PIN by entering your Exchange password.
Version 2.0.010 (Monday, 3/16/2009)
PUSH Email If you have ActiveSync enabled for your account and are running exchange 2003 SP2 or above, you can now enable push mode. To enable push mode, please do the following :
Copy Contacts to Phone You can now copy the contacts in your Exchange address book to the phone book by selecting the Copy to Phone menu item in the contacts view.
Auto Recover If TouchDown™ crashes when you are composing an email, clicking on the new Outbound button on the main screen will show you a list of pending messages.
Device Local Drafts When composing a message, now you can save the message as draft. To access the draft message, select the Outbound button on the main screen
Suppress Delete from Server A new option in the advanced tab of settings now lets you ensure that deleting emails will not reflect on the server.
Suppress Mark-Read from Server A new option in the advanced tab of settings now lets you ensure that marking emails as read or unread will not reflect on the server.
Send Attachments Now when sending emails, you can add attachments to them (Note that very large attachments may fail to be sent).
Security PIN If you have activesync enabled, you will be prompted for a PIN if the administrator has configured your account for high security.
Remote Wipe If you have activesync enabled, and you have enabled push, if you are on Exchange 2007, you can initiate a remote wipe of your TouchDown™ data from Outlook Web Access (Administrator has to initiate the wipe in 2003).
Version 1.5.000 (Thursday, 2/12/2009)
Calendar Views New Day/Week/Month/Agenda views. You can touch and slide the views to the left or right now.
Create/Delete Appointments You can now create or delete appointments from the calendar. Click Menu/Add event or long press a time in the day/Week/month views to create appointments. To delete an appointment, open it and select Menu/Delete
Faster Email List Loading If you have too many emails, you might have noticed that the system take a while to load the email list. This has been alleviated somewhat by making the email list load only the first 100 emails, and showing a button at the bottom for getting the next 50 and so on. This should provide a little more speedy loading of the email list.
Scheduling fixes This version includes some changes which affect the way automated polling is scheduled. This is to address cases where TouchDown™ seems to be stopping the schedule due to errors or other situations. Please let us know if this is more effective, or if the scheduling appears to be affected.
Sliding Views When you are viewing the calendar, now you can touch and drag to the left or right to move to the previous or next day/week/month depending on the view.
Email Multi-Selection This version should remember your choice of showing selection indicators against the email items.
Folder Hierarchies in French This version should let you select French as another folder language.
Force-Refreshing There may be times when your server is non responsive or your internet connection is flaky, causing a refresh to hang. If this happens, and you try another refresh from the main screen, now you have the option to kill the running refresh and start a new one. But please use this carefully, and only if you feel that the delay is due to network or server lag/outage, since killing the running refresh could jeopardize your database if there is any real activity going on.
Version 1.4.052 (Monday, 1/26/2009)
BUG FIX GAL search was attempting to send email to the name instead of the person's email address. Fixed
Version 1.4.051 (Monday, 1/26/2009)
Global Address List! This much-requested feature has been added to TouchDown™. When composing an Email, you can now press the GAL button to start a search in your global address list.
Meeting Invites This version will let you receive the following types of messages.
- Meeting invites
- Meeting responses to invites you have sent
Accept/Decline/Tentative Response If you wish to respond to a meeting invite, you can do using two methods.
- You can choose the Respond... option in the context menu that appears when you long-press the invite
- When you open up the invite, there will be a response button on the top right corner. Pressing this will let you respond to the invite. In this release, we do not allow typing in a message as a response, something we hope to fix in an upcoming preview.
International Languages Emails containing foreign language characters were not correctly displayed (typically email bodies). This included the Umlaute characters in european languages as well as characters in other languages such as Korean and Chinese. This should be fixed in this version.
European Languages Earlier versions of TouchDown™ had problems dealing with folders in other languages such as German, Dutch, Swedish. In this version, we have added a new option in the last tab of settings which lets you choose from German, Dutch and Swedish for Folder Language. Once you select a different language, you must "Refresh Folders" to get the functionality working correctly.
Blank EMails(BugFix): In earlier versions, some users occasionally received completely blank emails in their inbox. This was due to TouchDown™ attempting to mark non-existent (deleted) items on Exchange as READ. Exchange does not check to see if the item is present, and goes ahead and creates a Zombie message. This has been addressed, but if you delete an item in Outlook, and later open the same item on the device, you may still get a blank email.
Version 1.4.040 (Wednesday, 1/14/2009)
Contacts Sync Now you can long-press a contact and choose to 'Add to Phone'
Add Contact on Incoming call This is a new option in the third tab of settings. If you turn this on, when an incoming call is from an exchange contact that doesn't exist in your phone contacts, it will be copied to the phone contacts. This is currently tested to work only in the US T-Mobile network. To ensure that this works, you will need to do a Contacts Refresh-All to normalize the stored numbers.
Attachments! Once you install this release, attachments will be enabled for any new emails that you receive after the installation. When viewing an email with attachments:
Please note that on Exchange Server 2007, loading unusually large attachments can cause an error.
Gotcha: At this time it is not possible to show the size of the attachment before it is downloaded.
Contacts Update button removed The ever so confusing update button has been removed from the contacts screen
Contacts Search For those of you with large number of contacts, this version will let you start typing in the contacts list and popup a search bar for finding your contacts. You can type in the first or last name of your contact to quickly find it in the list. Clicking the X next to the search box will close the search view and take you back to the full contact list.
View Original When you reply or forward an email, now the compose window will also show the original message below the area where you type in your new message.
Backup and Restore Now you can backup your database when it is in a stable state. In case you ever face data corruption or settings get wiped out, you can restore to the previous backed up state by performing a database restore. These two options are available by pressing the Menu button in the Settings screens.
Selection Buttons The selection buttons for multi selecting emails had the nasty tendency to open up emails if you are not accurate enough. This problem has been addressed.
Last Refresh Time Now the main screen will show the last time of refresh and the next expected refesh time
